Eosinophilic Definitions

Below are a few definitions related to eosinophilic disorders.

 

Eosinophils - a specific type of white blood cell that accounts for only a small number of cells in the blood and tissues.

 

Eosinophilic Disorders - diseases involving increased accumulation of eosinophils in the blood or tissues. 

 

Eosinophilia - an increase in levels of eosinophils in the blood or tissue. 
 

Eosinophilic Colitis - a disease characterized by elevated levels of eosinophils in the large intestine (colon). 

 

Eosinophilic Esophagitis - a disease characterized by elevated levels of eosinophils in the esophagus. 

 

Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis - a disease characterized by elevated levels of eosinophils in the stomach and/or small intestine. 
 

Hypereosinophilic Syndrome - a disease characterized by high peripheral blood eosinophilia in the presence of multiple organ involvement.
